Report a Sighting

If a seal is hauled out in an area accessible to people or pets, if you are concerned about its welfare, or if you encounter a whale or dolphin, please report it immediately. to the BDMLR(British Divers Marine Life Rescue) emergency hotline at 01825765546 

 

Want to contribute to our Thames Seal Identification Log?We are excited to be using an AI identification system alongside our international scientific partners to determine whether we share seals with neighbouring countries and to help build our local seal identification catalogue. If you would like to report a past or live seal sighting please email us with:

  • Your name

  • Phone number(ideal but optional)​

  • Seal exact location using the app What Three Words, if possible

  • Grey or Harbour, if known

  • Pup or Adult, if known

  • Any identifiable markings, scars, colouring

  • Behaviour (swimming or on land, eating, sleeping..)

  • Attach photos or videos

Signs of a seal in distress

THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR YOUR TAGLINE.

  • Obvious injury of bleeding

  • Entanglement

  • Rapid or visibly laboured breathing

  • Regular coughing or sneezing

  • Shivering or seizures​

  • Obvious discharge from eyes or nose

  • very small pup on its own

  • Extremely thin (visible ribs or hips).
